Abraham 2:11

Question

It is through our covenants that we can obtain the “ultimate blessings of salvation and exaltation” that God describes to Abraham in this verse. Elder Christofferson points out that Nephi saw and rejoiced in the fulfillment of God’s covenant with Abraham in our day.
How does it make you feel to know that prophets throughout the ages looked forward to our day?
In what ways are you grateful for the opportunity to make covenants with God in your own life?

Scripture

11 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse them that curse thee; and in thee (that is, in thy Priesthood) and in thy seed (that is, thy Priesthood), for I give unto thee a promise that this right shall continue in thee, and in thy seed after thee (that is to say, the literal seed, or the seed of the body) shall all the families of the earth be blessed, even with the blessings of the Gospel, which are the blessings of salvation, even of life eternal.

Abraham 2:11

Quote

[I]t is only in pursuing the covenant path that we inherit the blessings of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the ultimate blessings of salvation and exaltation that only God can give.
Scriptural references to the covenant people often mean literal descendants of Abraham or the “house of Israel.” But the covenant people also include all who receive the gospel of Jesus Christ. Paul explained:
“For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. …
“And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”…
Let us heed the prophet’s call to stay on the covenant path. Nephi saw us and our time and recorded, “I, Nephi, beheld the power of the Lamb of God, that it descended upon the saints of the church of the Lamb, and upon the covenant people of the Lord, who were scattered upon all the face of the earth; and they were armed with righteousness and with the power of God in great glory.”
With Nephi, “my soul delighteth in the covenants of the Lord.”

Elder D. Todd Christofferson
