So, I’ve never read the Book of Mormon cover to cover even though I graduated seminary and spoke at my seminary graduation. I’m starting my journey today. I’ve read 1 Nephi chapter 1 many, many times, but this is the first time I’ve ever noticed that Lehi was visited by angels and given a book. He was told to read the book to receive revelation? I was halfway through the chapter when I said, wait what? What is this book and why wasn’t he just receiving revelation through a vision or a dream? (i.e. Lehi’s dream, the tree of life)
1 Nephi 1:11 And they came down and went forth upon the face of the earth; and the first came and stood before my father, and gave unto him a book, and bade him that he should read.
He obviously wasn’t reading the Book of Mormon, so what was he reading? I’ve always felt that it was strange that I was getting a lot of guidance and personal revelation through books other than the scriptures. (i.e. The Black Swan: Impact of the Highly Improbable, The Fire Next Time, and others) I believe in personal revelation. I do. I’ve experienced it many times in the last year and a half. It’s proof that God exists and knows us personally. He loves his children. He loves you and he performs miracles continuously. You just need to learn how to recognize them in your life. You could say that God let me down by not giving me the resolution that I wanted at the conclusion of this investigation, but God is all knowing. God’s plan doesn’t always align with what we want. That is what faith is for. He knows what’s best for me and I will trust it.
I’m all in.
