Today’s App Message

This one reminds me of when I was with my young women’s group in my teens. We were asked to go visit a woman in the hospital who had been in a coma for years. We sang ‘I Am a Child of God’ to her. I remember feeling the spirit while we were there.

I’d think upon this memory as I got older and fell away from the church, how silly we were. But as I listened to this conference talk in April, I thought maybe singing to that woman had made some sort of difference in her life. I might never know.

Question

Consider the simple truths taught in the song “I Am a Child of God“.
Which truth stands out to you as the most profound?
Why is remembering that you are a child of God so important?

Quote

Recently I visited a loved one after she had been in the hospital. She told me with emotion that while she was lying in the hospital bed, all she desired was for someone to sing to her the song “I Am a Child of God.” That thought alone, she said, gave her the peace she needed in that hour of affliction.
Knowing who you are changes what you feel and what you do.
Understanding who you truly are better prepares you to recognize and remember your way back to your heavenly home and yearn to be there…
I invite you to experience the joy of remembering that we are children of God and that He so loved the world that He has sent His Son to show us the path. I invite you to remember to be faithful, to turn your life to the Savior and build your foundation on Him. Remember to be prayerful in your journey and serve others along the way.

Scripture

  1. I am a child of God,
    And he has sent me here,
    Has given me an earthly home
    With parents kind and dear.
    [Chorus]
    Lead me, guide me, walk beside me,
    Help me find the way.
    Teach me all that I must do
    To live with him someday.
  2. I am a child of God,
    And so my needs are great;
    Help me to understand his words
    Before it grows too late.
  3. I am a child of God.
    Rich blessings are in store;
    If I but learn to do his will,
    I’ll live with him once more.
  4. I am a child of God.
    His promises are sure;
    Celestial glory shall be mine
    If I can but endure.
